This guide aims to assist patrons of all skill levels in their objective of using the space and equipment to make professional audio recordings. It goes over principles and techniques of production, as well as workflows for a successful recording.
No audio recording: Ensure the track is armed for recording and the correct input/output is selected.
Can't hear playback: Turn up monitoring and L/R levels on the mixer.
Signal popping (clipping): Reduce the gain on the channel.
Noisy signal: Check all connections, use shorter cables if possible, confirm DI box settings, adjust gain, and reposition instruments as needed.
Feedback: Lower mic and instrument volumes, move mics away from speakers/amps, use EQ to cut feedback frequencies, or try TouchMix’s feedback wizard (YouTube tutorials available).
No signal to mixer: Confirm all cables are plugged into the wall and mixer, ensure gain is up and instruments are powered, and restart the mixer if needed.
No audio interface on the iMac: Check system settings for audio input/output and select QSC TM-30; ensure the DAW is set to the correct audio device.
No audio from the iMac: Make sure channels 1 and 2 have the “Track” button selected (see Step 6).
Trouble connecting personal computer: Use the studio iMac to record and transfer session files to OneDrive when finished.
TouchMix help: Press the "Info" button on the mixer for detailed feature explanations.
