Most major publishers in the sciences and humanities are transitioning from business models based on paid subscriptions to open access models that make their journals free to everyone. Instead of charging readers, they charge an author an article processing charge (APC) for publishing in a journal. Increasingly, universities are negotiating transformative (a.k.a. read & publish) agreements with these publishers that pay the APCs for researchers affiliated with their institutions.
The University Libraries has signed multiple transformative agreements, which are summarized in the comparative chart below. For more details, see the list of publishers listed on the left under the "Agreements with Publishers" heading (click on the chart to enlarge it).
University of Arkansas Fayetteville authors have published the maximum number of articles eligible for open access funding under the agreement with Wiley in 2025. Between now and 31 December 2025, you may still choose to make your article open access, but the publishing charge will not be covered by the agreement.
