StaffGuide: Resources for New Library Faculty

This guide presents some common information useful to new faculty as they become oriented to their new roles.

Writing the Text of the Proposal

  • Faculty determine the research they want to do. Refer to APS 1405.16F (linked on this page) for allowable expenses. Work with your immediate supervisor and share the proposal with the associate dean prior to signing.
  • The proposal should include the following information:
    • Narrative description with intentions or reasons for using the funds
    • Purpose of research
    • Expected outcome of research
    • Timeline for intended use of funds
    • Budget for how the funds will be used (usually in a table format)
    • Signature of faculty applicant
    • Signature line for director or supervisor (if applicable)
    • Signature line for associate dean
    • Signature line for dean

Submitting Your Proposal

  • Submit signed proposal to applicable associate dean for signatures.
  • Associate dean submits signed proposal to the Division of Research and Innovation with copy to the assistant dean for finance and administration, who will notify the faculty when funds are released.

Spending Your Start-Up Funds

  • Once the proposal has been approved the employee will receive a message with a worktag number. A worktag is how your funds are identified in Workday. Use only the worktag assigned to your start-up funds.
  • For specific tips on travel see Tips on Travel [not yet complete].
  • Startup funds not used within three years of start date will be forfeited.
