Guide to the Journal Publishing Services offered by the University of Arkansas Libraries

How to Request Our Journal Publishing Services

If you are interested in using our services for your journal, please complete the Journal Publishing Services request form. Members of Open Education, Data, and Publishing Services will review your form and submit it to the University Libraries’ Administration for approval. Each form will be evaluated according to the journal’s eligibility, its alignment with the University of Arkansas’s strategic goals, and its contribution to the discipline as well as to the wider community.

Key Questions on the Request for Services Form

Before you begin completing the request for services form, you may want to prepare answers for these questions:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Is this journal sponsored or co-sponsored by a University of Arkansas Fayetteville department, college, or research unit?
  • Is this journal open access or will it be? By open access, we mean that all journal content is available to read and view at no charge immediately upon publication.
  • Do you (or will) you request that authors/contributors assign a Creative Commons license to their work? For more information about these licenses, please see the Creative Commons Library Guide.
  • How would you categorize this journal:
    • Student research and creative work produced under faculty guidance
    • Research and scholarship (peer-reviewed as per the standards of the field)
    • Conference proceedings (or collections of papers from regularly held events)
    • Guidance for practitioners or consumers (e.g., education, law, healthcare, business)
  • What subject areas does (or will) the journal cover?
  • How does the journal align with the University of Arkansas's mission statement and values?
  • How does the journal contribute to the discipline and/or the wider community?
    • Example: There is no other journal focused on the history of Southern sports and recreation, which is a growing field of interest.
    • Example: This journal will make high-quality research on all aspects of patient care freely available to nurse practitioners.
  • In addition to text, what media does (or will) the journal include as supplementary material, e.g., images, audio, video?
  • How frequently is (or will) a new issue be published, e.g., quarterly, semiannually, annually?
  • Who serves on editorial team (name, role, contact information)?
  • Is this a new journal or an existing journal?
  • Has the University of Arkansas Libraries hosted this journal in the past?
  • Is a commercial or nonprofit publisher involved in producing or hosting the journal?
  • Is the journal available on another website?
  • What services are you seeking from the University Libraries?
    • Use of the hosting platform to manage the editorial, peer-review, and other publishing processes
    •  Assistance with migrating an existing journal to the University Libraries’ hosting platform
    • Guidance, consultation, and templates for various journal-related policies and procedures (e.g., copyright, accessibility, peer review, submission guidelines)
    • Assistance with applying for an ISSN
    • Assistance with indexing in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
