Evidence-Based Practice for OT

Evidence-based practice (EBP) involves using the most up-to-date, accurate evidence available from high quality research and expert experience. In addition, "integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research."

Sackett DL, Rosenberg WM, Gray JA, Haynes RB, Richardson WS. Evidence based medicine: what it is and what it isn't. BMJ. 1996 Jan 13;312(7023):71-2. doi: 10.1136/bmj.312.7023.71. PMID: 8555924; PMCID: PMC2349778.

Step 1. Assess - what is the situation? Step 2. Ask - what is the issue? Step 3. Acquire - Identify evidence. Step 4. Appraise - Synthesize evidence. Step 5. Apply to practice. The Evidence-Based Practice is the integration of clinical experience, patient values, and research evidence in the clinical decision-making process.
